Supercar
The common term given to a high-performance, luxury sports car. These cars typically combine advanced technology, exceptional speed, striking design, and exclusivity.
Hire
To hire our cars means you pay us a fee to temporarily borrow the car for a pre-agreed timescale. Typically, this will also involve a deposit. The term Rental is often used in the US whereas we use hire in the UK.
Marque
Marque refers to the brand, or manufactuer of the supercar. For example, Bentley, Ferrari and Lamborghini are supercar marques.
Deposit
With car hire deposits, this is a sum of money paid upfront to secure the vehicle and cover potential damages or fees. This is a refundable amount and is held by the rental company and returned to you when the car is returned in good condition, minus any charges for damages or extra services.
Deposit Reduction
Some supercar hire companies offer a deposit reduction scheme. This is for customers to lower the initial deposit amount by purchasing additional coverage or insurance. This scheme reduces the financial risk for the rental company while providing customers with a more affordable and convenient option, often lowering the upfront cost of hiring a supercar.
Cabriolet
A Cabriolet is a car with a roof that can be folded back, allowing for open-air driving.
Spyder
This is another term for a cabriolet car. Historically, it referred to lightweight, two-seater vehicles for certain supercar manufacturers such as Ferrari, Porsche and Lamborghini
Horsepower
Horsepower is the unit of measurement for engine power. One horsepower equals 746 watts. It indicates the engine's ability to perform work, such as accelerating a vehicle. The higher horsepower typically translates to greater speed and performance, but must be viewed in combination with other factors, such as the weight of the car.
0-60 Time
The 0-60 mph measurement is commonly used to gauge acceleration because it represents a practical benchmark for real-world performance. It is designed to reflect how quickly a supercar can reach main road speeds and therefore providing a clear indication of the car's individual power and responsiveness.
2+2 Seats
A 2+2 seat configuration in a supercar refers to a layout with two front seats and two smaller, rear seats. While the rear seats can accommodate passengers, they are often less spacious or suitable for children due to limited legroom or comfort compared to traditional rear full seats. We suggest if passengers will be on a long journey, you consider a 4 seater hire.
Short Term Leasing
Car hire leasing typically refers to a length of time to hire a car, normally a year. The short term leasing details on the PB Supercars site refer to shorter periods of time from 1 month to 3 months.
VAT
VAT stands for Value Added Tax. This is a tax placed on all goods and services within the UK. All car hires in the UK are subject to VAT.
Road Tax
In the UK, there is no no road tax, but cars are subject to Vehicle Excise Duty (VED). This is a cost paid by the hire company on all cars depending on CO2 emissions, engine size, and the type of fuel the car uses. This cost is included in the hire charge on all cars.
Insurance
Insurance is financial protection in case of accidents, theft, or damage. It typically covers the hirer's liability should they damage the car or be involved in a collision. This cost is also included in the hire charge on all cars although if the hirer is liable for the damage, this will be taken from the deposit (see above).
